• Commercial Corridor Renovation Grant

  • Does your business need a new awning? Are you looking to replace your windows? 

     

    You may be eligible for the BDC’s brand NEW Commercial Corridor Renovation Grant (CCRG). This grant program assists businesses and property owners with exterior renovation costs, such as awnings, signage, façade improvements, window replacement, and rodent abatement. 

    The grant covers 50% of rehabilitation costs up to $20,000, with a maximum grant of $10,000 per property. Funds will be committed to applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • How to apply?

    To be eligible, you must: 

    • Be in the 16th Street & 26th Street commercial corridors 
    • Submit a completed application BEFORE the renovation project starts.

    ​  Application Requirements 

    1. Complete application.  HERE  
    2. Supply all required docs on Applicant Checklist 
      1. Project Scope - Provide property owner contact information & project description 
      2. Photos - Labeled photographs of the building & all areas to be restored 
      3. Estimates - Two detailed cost-estimates per type of restoration work to be performed 
      4. Ownership - Proof of property ownership – i.e. property warranty deed, most recent property tax form, land contract registered with the respective county 
      5. Finances - Proof of financial wherewithal in form of bank statement or letter from lender on approved financing 
      6. Drawings - Scaled drawings of the proposed project  
      7. Materials - Specifications and/or product information for materials to be used  
      8. Samples - Material and/or color samples

  • Who can apply?

    • Projects must be commercial or mixed-use property within the 16th Street & 26th Street commercial corridors (Click Here to View Maps) 
    • Property owners, person on behalf of owner, or business owner with signed permission of property owner 
    • Project Examples: awnings, signage, façade improvements, window replacement, and rodent abatement. 

    Ineligible uses

    The commercial uses outlined below are NOT permitted as a use for the first three (3) years of the buildings’ rehabilitation:  

    • Rooming and boarding/Single Room Occupancy  
    • Bars/ Taverns 
    • Pawn Shop  
    • Pay day loans and currency exchange uses  
    • Tattoo parlor uses  
    • Poolrooms  
    • Adult entertainment  
    • Vapor or electronic cigarette shops  
    • Gun clubs and shooting ranges  
    • Drug paraphernalia/head shops  
    • Religious uses  
    • Gambling establishments  
    • Medical uses 
       
  • Time line

    Submit a completed application BEFORE the project starts

    1. BDC issues Certificate of Approval once all requirements are met

    Complete project within assigned timeframe (90 days)

    After work is completed, submit:

    1. Proof of waiver of all liens on property and payment for completed work
    2. Copy of Building Permits and Certificate of Completion from City of Berwyn (as applicable)
    3. Photos of completed work
    4. Use of Funds Agreement

    BDC issues reimbursement check (10- 14 business days)
