| Annual Meeting & Piper Award Dinner |
Annual MeetingEach January, BDC members and community leaders gather together to attend our annual membership meeting. Attendees enjoy a complimentary breakfast and have an opportunity to meet and greet fellow members and elected officials. The meeting's agenda includes Installation of newly elected board members and distribution of the organization's Annual Report. Additionally, the BDC gives out recognition awards for business owners who contributed to the Berwyn business community by improving their businesses or properties through the TIF program. The 2010 Annual Meeting took place on January 19 at BDC member Pierre's Banquets. Charles E. Piper AwardEach year the BDC presents the Charles E. Piper Award to an individual selected for recognition for their business achievements and community involvement. Members are invited to vote for an individual that best exemplifies the spirit of Mr. Piper, one of Berwyn's first developers. Charles Piper can be best described as resilient, visionary and dynamic. As one of the first settlers to the area, Mr. Piper’s work began in the 1890’s and allowed for the current day Berwyn. Against the odds and using his own private funds, he built the hub of Berwyn, the Berwyn Train Station; assisted with the high quality and stringent building standards which produced our City of Homes; and laid out a land plan which produced multiple business corridors and diversity for the city’s tax base. These same attributes can be found in the list of past winners, our business community and the City. The 2009 Piper Award recipient was Scott Lennon. |
